- 24% of New Jersey residents speak a language other than English at home?
- Almost one in five of all New Jersey residents are foreign born.
- Charles Seabrook produced the first frozen food in 1933. He built villages and schools
for his workers, who included Japanese Americans released from internment camps to work at
Seabrook Farms and war refugees from Europe. During the 1940s and 1950s, more than thirty
languages were spoken at Seabrook Farms.
- The Borough of Roosevelt is the only municipality in New Jersey that is, in its entirety,
a registered National Historic Site. Roosevelt is a fairly new borough, having been established
in 1937 under Franklin D. Roosevelt's "New Deal." Most of the original settlers
were Jewish garment workers from New York.
- In 1870, nearly fifty percent of the silk produced in the United States was manufactured in Paterson.
