Activity: Being There

Imagine you are a Japanese-American young person living in California in 1941. Create a diary entry that describes how you felt when you heard about the Pearl Harbor attack, when you read the headlines in the newspapers talking about the need to remove people like you from your home, when you saw the posted evacuation order, and when you first saw the relocation center. In groups, you will then share your work with others and then discuss what you have learned about what it feels to be involuntarily relocated.
