Date: May 12, 1766
Abstract: In colonial New Jersey, citizenship was available to non-Catholics only. The naturalization process required proof that the petitioner was receiving communion in a Protestant church. This 1766 certification of Rev. Henry Mühlenberg, Minister of St. Michaels Lutheran Church in Philadelphia, PA, shows that Adam Fix, Adam Saul and Matthias Pleninger of Cumberland and Salem Counties, NJ, were members of his church.
